During this motivating and fun-filled program, kids create vision boards of their goals and dreams, and then they learn the values necessary for them to achieve them. The vision board is created by making a collage of inspiring pictures, motivating quotes, personal affirmations, and powerful words from magazines and other print medium. To that collage the kids add personal photos, decorative lettering, and various embellishments to enhance and personalize their boards.
Vision & Values for Kids class has the elements of the adult vision board program except that it is geared for pre-teens and teens. The concept is very much in line with Judge Glenda Hatchett's One Million Dreams, youth program.
Judge Hatchett advises parents to create a poster with their child's goals and dreams written in large words and place it on the ceiling above their child's bed. So those words are the first thing the child sees in the morning and the last thing at night. Judge Hatchett feels this will keep chidren focused on what they want to achieve. The kids create their vision by putting pictures on a board that they can see everyday to keep they excited and motivated. During the class they get a chance to talk to other children and the facilitator about their future plans. So they can give voice to their dreams. Seeing pictures everyday of what they desire becomes a powerful reminder to them and can help keep them focused. The class facilitator will explain the various values the kids will need to embrace and act on in order to achieve their goals. Those discussed will be based on the age of the group and what the parents, teachers, and/or organizers feel is most important for them at their current stage. The values can include being optimistic, helpful to others, taking action, staying on track, managing their time, having positive friends, treating all kids fairly and not bulling others, etc. For more details about Visions & Values for Kids call 770-498-0400 or send an email to [email protected]. _____________________________________________________ Below is a commercial for VISA with an interesting story about Julia Mancuso. The video and the message below by Julia show that vision boards can have a tremendous impact on kids. When she was a young girl, Julia created a vision board about her winning Olympics medals. She achieved that dream during the 2006 Olympics winter games. Click the play button below to see the video. From Julia Mancuso's blog ...
"The Olympics are a big part of my life. I was dreaming of Olympic Gold since I was a little girl. I drew the poster that VISA made into a commercial at the last Olympics, you could call that my vision board! I just imagined it was true, and it did! As a competitor we do a lot of these things subconsciously, but I believe that the subconscious works in the way we want it to if we act in a positive way and first control the things that we think about and project our future how we want it to be." Participants in Donna's Visions &
Values for Kids program The vision board was the best project I’ve ever done. I had fun visualizing my future and how I wanted it to be. I would suggest this project for everyone. It’s an excellent way to start your success.
DeJane Thompson, Senior - Grayson High School (Loganville, Georgia) Your class on Creating Your Vision Board for our youth leaders was a hit! The students were engaged and excited. Being able to create their own boards served as a tool to help them focus on what they would like their future to look like. It was a dynamic and constructive seminar. Your topic points were in line with where our students are now. However, you also, helped them to view where they can be in the future. JeJuan Stewart Advisor - Gwinnett NAACP Youth Council Over 100 youth, ages 13-19, were empowered by Ms. Satchell through the Life Skills Series sponsored by the Sickle Cell Foundation of Georgia. Her vision board curriculum opened the minds of the teens as she made it relevant to their present as well as their future. Her Vision & Values workshop allowed them to Dream BIG and gave them steps to follow to achieve their dreams. Youth on a national scale need to be empowered by Ms. Satchell as she gives Visions & Values. Keith L.
